Bundesliga week 28
Only one Bundesliga game on Friday eve, and Schalke won that 4-0 against Energie Cottbus. A goal festival, in which even Kevin Kuranyi scored. But for the club from the former GDR it’s getting really serious now, if they want to avoid relegation. But according to the stats, they hadn’t had a chance from the beginning of that match. Cottbus lost six from six games at Schalke bringing it to a goal difference of 0-19. That’s why the club decided to pay back the ticket costs to the supporters who took the 600km trip to Schalke. Fair enough you might say, notwithstanding this offer the fans stood up, saying that they are not purchasable. Respect.
In Saturday’s Bundesliga games Borussia Mönchengladbach also suffered a setback by losing 1-4 in Frankfurt keeping the relegation race thrilling. On the other hand is Frankfurt pretty much saved, taking over the 11th spot on the tables.
Staying in the lower half of the Bundesliga tables, Karlsruhe managed to scored, not only once but twice, after more than twelve hours in the Baden derby. Bad luck, that Hoffenheim also scored twice 60km away from their home extending the not-winning-streaks of both teams.
Meanwhile Borussia Dortmund learned how to win games. After a long series of draws, 13 in total, they gained their 4th win in a row, defeating VfL Bochum 2-0. With only four losses, no team has fewer defeats than the blackandyellow from Dortmund. Coach Jürgen Klopp is responsible for the upturned process bringing his team in reach for the UEFA-Cup spots in the tables.
The same applies for VfB Stuttgart who easily won 3-0 in Cologne having Mario Gomez scored all three goals. Another horrible performance by Cologne who have a lot of work to do in the summer break. But somehow you can compare them with Bayern Munich. The Bavarians lose one game after another, maybe draw, lose again but with three points behind the top spot they are still in reach for the championship. Cologne on the contrary, has just given up its 11th spot after weeks and is now 12th. Both teams are so lucky that there are so many other teams that are so much worse than they are and lose even more. Otherwise, and Cologne shouldn’t fool themselves in that point, they would face relegation for sure.
Nothing has changed in the race for the Bundesliga trophy, Bayern earned a hard-fought 1-0 away win at Bielefeld while Wolfsburg won luckily against Leverkusen 2-1. Wolfsburg got a penalty which wasn’t one, therefore Leverkusen didn’t get one although it was one. It evens out… Yeah, well, when you are on top you get veeery lucky sometimes. Grafite scored both goals again, an amazing fella.
