No dignity, no doubt!
A tough day for every Bayern supporter out there. 0-4 against Barcelona only because the Catalans showed mercy in the 2nd half. There was no fighting, no scarifying whatsoever, an appalling performance of Germany’s No.1 club. They humiliated themselves yet again in an embarrassing and ridiculous kind of way that every other Bundesliga team could not have done it better. They haven’t had the slightest chance, with ball possession in the low 30s and three shots on goal in total. But it’s not only the horrible defense to blame. Where was a Ribery? Where was a Schweinsteiger? Champions League games in Barcelona should be a highlight for every professional, it hardly gets any better. It’s simply not enough to enjoy being a star, the fame and the whole lot of money and attention they receive at home. And games in Camp Nou are the perfect stage to give something back and to show not only Germany or Europe but the world who they are and why they’re stars. But instead: a total breakdown. And they don’t have anyone else but them to blame.
You could write a novel about the Bayern defense once again but instead I’ll create an award called ‘Lell of the week’ and bestow it upon its eponym Christian Lell. Another stunning performance by the 24 year-old. His abilities only last for the third or fourth division though, but like ‘Bernie’, he keeps appearing again and again in the starting line-up of the most successful German Bundesliga club. A phenomenon, the boy has done everything right in his life. To die for!
Meanwhile is Klinsmann’s future in Munich in dispute. The next Bundesliga game against Frankfurt on Saturday will probably be giving the direction whether the charismatic coach is allowed to stay with Bayern until the end of the season or whether he can already get the return tickets to LALA-Land asap. His credit is finally gone after those two important and trend-setting matches in which his team received two bitter defeats and 9 (nine!) goals.
