Northern by nature

2-1, 2-1. Those are the results for today’s Bundesliga games between Berlin and Bremen as well as Hamburg and Hannover. After several weeks on the top spot of the tables and the following three defeats, Berlin won again putting itself in 4th position, still in reach for the Champions League spots. Although no one who really knows something about football believes that they’re even going to finish on an UEFA-Cup spot, Hertha BSC have to earn the money, international competitions offer in order to keep their star striker Andriy Voronin. Being on loan from Liverpool, British media presume that he’ll return to the Reds at the end of the season though.

A different story from that match is the one between rivals Bremen and Hamburg who will play four times in 19 days against each other (national cup semi-final, Bundesliga, 2xUEFA-Cup semi-final). Bremen, being in no man’s land of the tables, gave their star midfielders Diego and Mesut Özil a break in the Berlin match in order to have the slight advantage of rested players in Wednesday national cup semi-final against their northern rivals. Plus: Through their defeat, Berlin gained the already mentioned three important points in the race of the valuable Champions League spots, in which Hamburg is also involved. It will be exciting to see how this series will end!
