Heynckes the Savior – Bundesliga week 30
Suddenly everything is as it’s supposed to be. Bayern wins again, not beautifully but in an old-fashioned and rational kind of way. 2-1 against Borussia Mönchengladbach which is struggling badly now in order to stay in the Bundesliga. But that’s not the topic although the new Bayern coach has a strong connection to his former club. Heynckes to the rescue and that’s what he did. Shots that did go wide in that game were now only the players’ mistakes and not also the coach’s as it was under the Klinsmann reign, goals that have been achieved were suddenly linked to the improvements the new trainer made. Because unexpectedly the players learned how to run, fight and believe in themselves after receiving the equalizer again, Philipp Lahm explained us the fact as follows: ‘It’s finally fun again being on the pitch and playing football’. But if you think about it, it’s a pathetic statement, implying that the players actually helped Klinsmann losing his job by refusing to give their obligatory 100%. As I mentioned after the Barcelona incident, you can lose games honestly maybe due to bad tactics or simply bad luck but the performance of the Bavarian so-and-self-called stars in the last couple of weeks was a mere outrage. Letting important and capable players leave the team, in combination with having players like Christian Lell, a man who was simply too bad for a club like Cologne, in the starting line-up, the result was deadly and thus the disaster was without any doubts predictable. If the glorious club wants to maintain its hegemony in the Bundesliga, the management has to react during the summer break by piloting an acknowledged football coach to the Bavarian capital (Former Bondscoach Louis van Gaal is the latest gossip) and activating human resources to find players with the right caliber for Germany’s no.1 club. Zenit St. Petersburg’s coveted star Anatoli Tymoschtschuk is joining the quitters as well as Croatian international Ivica Olic from Hamburg however being presumably only striker no.3 behind Toni and Klose. Furthermore is Andreas Görlitz who is on loan in Karlsruhe returning to Munich to replace Christian Lell and thus improve the weak right defensive wing. But still, I predict that after a couple of games in the new season Lell, indestructible like cockroach, will return to the starting line-up and make us laugh/cry/worry all at the same time once again. I believe in him. Come on, Christian!
In other games: Wolfsburg maintained the top position of the Bundesliga tables for at least another week, thrashing the mayflies from Hoffenheim impressively 4-0 having Dzeko scoring three goals in a row in one half.
Meanwhile did Dortmund close the gap to the Europe League spots by defeating the Eintracht in Frankfurt 2-0. Highlight of the game was Dortmund’s ‘bomber’ Nelson Valdez who tumbled after an unremarkable foul and turned several somersaults and thus demanding for at least a helicopter rescue. A shame, really.
The Borussia’s archrival Schalke lost much to the black-and-yellow delight 1-2 at home against Leverkusen who remembered how to win again having Patrick Helmes and Renato Augusto score the goals. By the way, those were the first goals the coaching triumvirate received in their reign and as a result the first loss blurring this impressive record.
Hannover achieved an important win to remain in the Bundesliga after winning 2-0 in Bochum yesterday. Robert Enke being solid as a rock once again put yet another exclamation point on his demand for the position of the goalkeeper in the national team.
Talking about relegation, another classic in this category was held in Karlsruhe once again where the KSC took on mighty Energie Cottbus. Karlsruhe being one of the more potent Bundesliga clubs, nooot, was not able to detain relegation one more time by scoring at least a single goal. As was Cottbus, a somehow predictable nil-nil that didn’t help either side as they say.
An important point in order to avoid relegation did Bielefeld win with their 2-2 draw against VfB Stuttgart. Stuttgart on the other hand received a damper in the race for the Bundesliga championship. But the race is still open as Stuttgart will take on first seed Wolfsburg at home on Saturday.
